Whyville is an online virtual world with citizens age 8 to 15 from all over the real world. They visit Whyville to chat, play, learn, and have fun together. As a citizen, you design your face, earn clams by playing games, hang out at the beach, and go to town events at the Greek Theater. You can even start your own business, buy a car and give your friends a ride, write for the town newspaper, or run for a seat in the Whyville Senate. In addition, we keep our town safe using chat filters and city monitors. We also help our citizens learn about Internet safety, so they can learn to be safe outside of Whyville, too.
Whyville is an online virtual world dedicated to learning through exploration and communication. Founded by educators and researchers, Whyville has become the premier educational virtual world for children 8-14. Our citizens come from all over the world to interact, learn, and have fun together. They participate in educational activities from math and physics to art history to economics and civics. Our sponsors includeNASA, the School Nutrition Association and the J. Paul Getty Trust.
Whyville also has a complete set of safety tools designed to keep the site safe, secure and age-appropriate. From making sure that our citizens pass a test before chatting to filters and city workers who regulate site behavior, we endeavor to not only keep Whyville safe, but also teach our citizens about Internet safety.
