Riverton Elementary School uses Everyday Mathematics in Kindergarten through 4th grade.  Outlined below are key elements of the program, as well grade level math curriculum maps:

  • Real-life Problem Solving

Numbers, skills, and mathematical concepts are linked to situations that are relevant to students' everyday lives.

  • Balanced Instruction

Instruction includes whole group, small group, partner and individual activities.  These types of activities provide open-ended, hands-on explorations and on-going practice of math skills.

  • Multiple Methods For Basic Skills Practice

Instruction offers several methods for basic skills practice and review.  Such activities include: written and choral fact drills, mental math routines, fact triangles, review sets and math games.

  • Emphasis on Communication

During instruction, students are encouraged to explain and discuss their mathematical thinking in their own terms.  Through sharing ideas with one another, students are able to clarify and gain a better understanding of materials.

  • Enhanced Home/School Partnerships

Homelinks for grades 1-3 and Studylinks for grade 4 help keep parents informed about their children's experience in math.

  • Appropriate Use of Technology

Calculators are sometimes used to enhance and extend math activities.
