Changes to be Made for RMS Academy Week

Academy Week at Riverton Middle School is headed for some major changes in the spring which will meet students needs even better than the current structure of Academy Week.  Middle school students receive extra help in reading, writing, and math during intersession.  In the past, this additional instruction was provided to students by grade level and students were generally selected based on current grades in reading, writing, and math.  Classes covered material that was taught the previous quarter in hopes to cover material that students did not understand from that quarter.  Spring Academy Week and future remedial courses will focus more on individual student needs based upon MAP scores.  Teachers will teach small groups of who are at comparable skill levels and have similar needs.  We believe that an intense program that focuses on individual needs will better serve students and in turn help them more in the classroom in the future.  We are looking forward to the improvements to Academy Week and encourage students to attend in order to enhance their individual skills.  If you are interested in involving your son or daughter in Academy Week or have any questions, please contact Michaela Campbell, intersession coordinator, at 629-6002, ext. 4.
