QUESTIONING

WHAT?

Asking and answering questions as you read in order to make sure that you’re understanding what you read and to keep you focused on it.

WHY?

To make you a more independent reader

To help you hold yourself accountable for understanding more difficult things you read

To help you make sure you’re staying focused

HOW?

Four Types:

Clarification – you’re unsure about a main idea – you find the answer in the text

Inference – you’re unsure about a main idea – you have to figure out the answer based on clues in the text

        Ponder – you’re just curious

Prediction – you wonder about the future (of the text or in general)
