QUESTIONING
WHAT? |
Asking and answering questions as you read in order to make sure that you’re understanding what you read and to keep you focused on it.
WHY? |
• To make you a more independent reader • To help you hold yourself accountable for understanding more difficult things you read • To help you make sure you’re staying focused
HOW? |
Four Types: • Clarification – you’re unsure about a main idea – you find the answer in the text • Inference – you’re unsure about a main idea – you have to figure out the answer based on clues in the text • Ponder – you’re just curious • Prediction – you wonder about the future (of the text or in general) |
